I use dream-like imagery to discuss difficult topics surrounding migration, belonging, and identity.

Carol Bedoy (b. 1998 Chicago, IL) is an artist and curator whose practice pushes taboo conversations surrounding mental health, migration, belonging, and identity.

Growing up between Chicago (USA) and Aguascalientes (MEX), Carol acquired an extensive family photo and video archive. Within their photographs, visual references to this archive are typically made. Utilizing analog practices to push a dream-like imagery, they use beauty to make trauma easier to talk about. This exploration of visual storytelling as a tool to heal from traumatic experiences is set with a goal of representation and agency for a misunderstood, underrepresented community.
Carol’s curatorial practice is dedicated to representing misunderstood and underrepresented artists that urgently need the agency of being portrayed in a light that they wish to be shown in. It is crucial that individual stories are shared to give others an insight into what they have gone through and create some relatability amongst groups that did not see the common ground before. It is important for BIPOC to be present in a gallery space both on display and as producers, for only people who have lived through the experience can truthfully share their stories.
